Hotels in Saint Petersburg barely cope with the influx of visitors that need hotel accommodation. Although, the overall Saint Petersburg hotel bed-count has been improving over recent years. There is still a major shortfall of mid-range hotel accommodation – but this is where the recent breed of St. Petersburg mini-hotel’s attempt to capitalise on.

Existing hotels in St. Petersburg Russia have been modernised with efforts to bring them up to Western standards. While other hotels have emerged through private investment companies and established international hotel chains.

Where as a St. Petersburg hotel may have undergone a modernisation refurbishment to a good standard the hotel staff unfortunately have not. An apparent complaint by many foreign visitors staying in St. Petersburg hotels is the service, or rather, the lack of it! However, things seem to be improving - there is hope.

Russian managed hotels do not follow standards for awarding hotel star ratings as used and accepted by the West (i.e. according to services and condition of amenities etc…) but tend to be generously self-assessed.
