Using Credit Cards
in Russia
The use of credit cards in shops and restaurants is steadily on the increase but is not wide spread.
Even though the standard credit card "welcome" stickers are displayed in establishment doors or windows - always ask if they accept them. Some places stop the service without removing the signs.
It's a good idea to remember your card PIN number and check it before leaving, just in case a visit to a Cash Point Machine (ATM) is required!
As is usual in Europe, Visa and MasterCard cards are more commonly accepted than American Express cards.
To reduce the risk of fraud many stores require some photo identification
to verify the name on the credit card - a passport or driving
license will do the job.
Tip:Take your credit card 24
hour emergency help line for reporting any lost or stolen cards.
