Hard Currency - Cash

Depending upon the length of your stay - and if bringing cash - it's recommended to take either USA dollars or Euros in not less than 50 (USD or Euro) denominations - however smaller notes are ideal for tipping.

Your notes (bills) must be in excellent condition otherwise your "friendly" Russian bank clerk will reject them. Various banks insist on a passport before exchanging the cash into the required Russian roubles (rubles).

Banks will exchange other main line currencies such as the GB pound sterling but the rates are generally not so favourable.
